Nancy's Knitting

Monday, April 28, 2008

Since I came up with this idea last week, there are a few new things in the knitting bag.  And still many unfinished.

To start - the scarf is finished and drying.  It is really pretty, The little specks you see are beads.

As I said, I cast on for a hat - here it is so far.  This is so much fun it is addicting.  It is knit using the Fair Isle technique, but you use one solid color and I skein of Noro's Silk Garden or Kuryeon and the colors change for you.  So many possibilities, so little time.

Now I have gotten myself into more trouble.  This yarn is Colibri from Katia and is new this spring.  I've been liking it  and wondering what to do with it.  The other day we were looking at the new Katia book for spring and low and behold a pretty cardigan knit in Colobri, very whispy and light - Hmmmm, going on vacation soon - it's pretty, can I get it done in time?  Maybe I'll put everything else aside (except for the socks I need to do for class) and get it done by May 17.  I think I can do it, but I think I'll need to buy a new tank top to wear under it.

So here we go;

On my size 1 double pointed needles at home is a Man's Tie for my son.  I made a tie years ago for my husband and it hung in his closet.  I liked, I guess he didn't. A few months ago, my son had to wear a tie for a school event and I saw him walking by wearing the hand knit tie.  "Where'd you get that?"  "Dad's closet."  "You like it?"  "Yeah, it's cool!"  (Not something I hear often)  "Do you want me to make more?"  "Yeah, they're cool."  Ok, out come the needles and the pattern search is on.  I found a few patterns and made him another tie out of Great Adirondack Soxie and now I am making another, similar to the first using Fortissima Sock yarn in colors for the college he will be attending in the fall (RPI).  I am using a technique called double knitting which gives you a two sided reversible piece.  It is a 12 row pattern and you have to pay attention.  That's why I keep this at home.

In my knitting bag, on size 3 circular's is a sweater.  This is a sweater I made before from Alice Starmore's book; Pacific Coast Highway.  I have always loved it and made it when I weighed more.  It hasn't fit for years (good news, bad news) and so I decided to rip it out and do it again.  I am using pink Baby Uhl.  Last time I made it I had to cast on the 600 sts 3 TIMES! because I twisted them.  This time, once.  Yeah!  This will be on the needles for a while. But it will make for great vacation knitting. (coming up later this month, yeah!)

Also, in the bag... A Mosaic Jacket from Maie Landra's "Knits from a Painter's Palette" in Koigu.  This has been in the bag for a while and is my emergency, pick up knitting.  It is knit one small mitered square at a time on size 3 needles.  Easy, since you make the same little square over and over and over again.  Someday.......

Hopefully this will be done by the time you read this.  It will be a beaded, felted scarf from the book Shibori Knitted Felt.  It is knit with Jamison's Shetland and Rowan's Kid Silk Haze.  It is embellished with beads on the Shetland section, which will felt.  Stop in and see this, it will be very pretty.  I've got two more from this book in line, to knit next.

I am teaching the Fanning the Flame sock class and am knitting the last sock of the pair along with the class.  I am knitting with Plymouth's Happy Feet.  You can see the completed sock and Fanning the Flames Mittens on my Featuring page.

Can you believe I just cast on the Stitches to make a hat?

I think I have Knitter's A.D.D.  Is there help for that??
